WASTE MANAGEMENT

This refers to the control, monitoring and regulation of the production, collection, transport, treatment and disposal of waste.https://stats.oecd.org/glossary/detail.asp?ID=2900#:~:text=(b)%20control%2C%20monitoring%20and,process%20modifications%2C%20reuse%20and%20recycling. Waste management mostly involves recycling whereby the waste is processed into reusable material. Recycling occurs in three different ways which are mechanic recycling. This involves giving residues new usages. The other method is energy recycling which involves converting plastics into both thermal and electric energy. The third method is chemical recycling. Here the chemical structures of plastic are modified after processing. The final product is then used as raw material in industries.https://www.vanellagroupmn.com/what-are-the-3-types-of-recycling

Kenya has been battling with waste for a very long time. The government has put measures to try to deal with the situation inorder to ensure they create a conducive environment for everyone to live in. We have however and still are experiencing pollution due to improper waste management. Water and air pollution are common. With water pollution for example, it is hugely affecting animals both those on land and the marine. Marine animals are unable to survive in polluted water. It occurs when a combination of trash and chemicals most of which comes from land sources and is washed into the ocean.

Humans need clean drinking water. However if the waste is mismanaged it pollutes water . This is especially through the chemicals produced in industries. They include distillery industries, tannery industry, paper industry, textile industry, food industry, iron and steel industry just to name a few. When such is released to drinking water, it exposes people to diseases such as typhoid, cholera diarrhea and even skin diseases.

Inorder to prevent all this from happening, we can all play a vital role in managing ways through several ways. One of them is using a reusable bottle or cup for beverages. By this I mean having one bottle to carry water around with rather than buying water all the time which will lead to improper disposal of the plastic. Another method is using reusable grocery bags, this will save on the disposing of plastic bags which have to be disposed everytime after use. Purchasing wisely and recycle is another. This will help with reduction of disposition since we shall only have what we need. Avoiding single-use food and drink containers and utensils. This saves on disposing of cups, straws, napkins and all that.

Buying second hand items donating used goods is a good method of avoiding disposing unwanted items. Buying in bulk reduces packaging which could otherwise involve so many bags for packaging. Cubbing the use of paper, receipts and mails would help a lot. To replace this we could use modern technology like computers to keep records.https://www.nature.org/en-us/about-us/where-we-work/united-states/delaware/stories-in-delaware/delaware-eight-ways-to-reduce-waste/

It is everyone's duty to ensure the environment is safe from pollution by practicing proper waste disposal.
